Our NGO works towards sustainable development for all through women's empowerment, poverty alleviation, employment initiatives etc.

Makkal Kalvi Arakattalai, established in 2019 in Poyyapakkam Village, Villupuram Taluk & District, Tamil Nadu, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to holistic community development. The NGO focuses on key areas such as children's education, health and nutrition, rural development, poverty alleviation, and women's empowerment. We actively support labor and employment initiatives to uplift marginalized communities. Through skill development, awareness programs, and community engagement, the organization aims to foster sustainable livelihoods. Makkal Kalvi Arakattalai also emphasizes the empowerment of women, enabling them to achieve financial independence. Its mission is to create a positive and lasting impact in rural Tamil Nadu.

Programs

Women Empowerment

Our NGO has taken sewing classes in more than 10 villages in Villupuram. More than 30 women are trained. Their participation in tailoring workshops is an important step towards empowerment and freedom from poverty and provides them with the skills they need to earn money for their families, get jobs, and be independent.

Health Care for Children

Health care for children is a priority in our initiatives, with height, weight, and basic health checkups conducted for primary school students in Poyapakkam Village. Through regular health camps and support programs across multiple villages, we aim to promote child well-being. These efforts ensure early detection of health issues and spread awareness about the importance of child health.

Nourish and Care Program

The Nourish and Care Program is dedicated to combating hunger and malnutrition among vulnerable populations. It supports low-income families, homeless individuals, and those facing financial hardships by providing nutritious meals. This initiative underscores our commitment to helping those in need and fostering a healthier, more compassionate community.

Inauguration of adult literacy program: "Lightened to Lighten"

Makkal Kalvi Arakattalai, in collaboration with Literacy India Trust, Chennai, proudly launched an adult literacy program with the theme "Lightened to Lighten." This initiative aims to empower adults with essential literacy skills, enabling them to lead more informed and independent lives. The program aspires to illuminate minds and foster a culture of lifelong learning in the community.

Tailoring Program for Women

We successfully organized a new batch of the tailoring program from April 15, 2024, to July 15, 2024. This initiative aimed to empower women by providing them with essential tailoring skills for self-employment and financial independence. Over 60 women actively participated and benefited from this program, gaining valuable skills to enhance their livelihoods. The program reflects our commitment to women’s empowerment and sustainable community development.

SHG Formation meetings

The meeting aimed to empower community members through collective action and self-reliance, fostering economic and social development. he benefits of SHGs were elaborated, emphasizing: Financial empowerment through collective savings and access to credit. Social empowerment by fostering solidarity and collective decision-making. Skill development and capacity building through training and group activities. Emphasis was placed on the importance of transparency, accountability, and active participation from all members.

On March 8th, 2024, we celebrated Women’s Day with enthusiasm and gratitude. The event honored the achievements and contributions of women in our community, inspiring empowerment and equality. Various activities and programs were organized to promote awareness about women’s rights and opportunities. The celebration witnessed active participation, fostering a spirit of unity and progress.

Food Kit distribution

The primary objective of the free food kit distribution program was to provide nutritious and essential food items to individuals and families experiencing economic challenges. The distribution of free food kits provided immediate relief to beneficiaries, ensuring they had access to nutritious meals during times of financial strain. Awareness class for students

The awareness class for students was designed to engage and educate young minds on issues such as environmental conservation, health and hygiene, social inclusion, and other pertinent topics. The awareness class covered a range of topics, including environmental sustainability, health and hygiene practices, gender equality, and the importance of community involvement. Specialized sessions were tailored to address the unique needs and concerns of the student population. The awareness class for students reflects the organization's dedication to shaping socially responsible individuals who can contribute positively to society.

Certification course on PR and RD

We successfully conducted a 3-month certification course on Public Relations (PR) and Rural Development (RD) in Chengalpattu District. This program aimed to enhance participants' skills and knowledge in community engagement and development strategies.

Health and nutrition awareness for women

Our trust organized a health and nutrition awareness program for women, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet for maintaining overall health, especially for pregnant and lactating mothers. The program highlighted how a mother’s health directly impacts the growth and development of her child. We provided counseling and distributed health kits containing roasted small grain powder, jaggery, eggs, and fruits to participants. More than 75 SHG members and village women attended the program, making it a successful initiative to promote health and nutrition in the community.

Diwali celebration

We celebrated Diwali by distributing sweets and snacks to children from underprivileged communities, spreading joy and cheer during the festival. This initiative reflects our commitment to the welfare of marginalized sections of society and our vision of creating a fair and inclusive world. We remain dedicated to organizing similar programs that bring hope and happiness to the lives of the deprived and underserved.

COVID-19 relief program

On July 20, 2021, we organized a COVID-19 Relief Program in Poyapakkam village to support those in need during the pandemic. Our trust distributed essential items such as face masks, sanitizers, herbal water, hand gloves, soaps, and Dettol. Additionally, basic provisions including food, clothes, and medical kits were provided to the underprivileged. This initiative benefited over 200 people, reflecting our commitment to community welfare during challenging times.

COVID-19 support

We provided over 2,000 meals and distributed 4,000 masks and sanitizers to daily wage workers, senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and single-parent families. This initiative aimed to support these vulnerable groups with cooked food, daily rations, and vegetables during the challenging times of the pandemic.

Health awareness program

We conducted a health awareness camp in Koyapakkam village with the support of a resource person. Over 100 people attended the camp, underwent general check-ups, and received medicines for minor ailments. Those with serious conditions were advised to seek treatment at Villupuram Head Quarter Mundiyampakkam Government Hospital. This initiative aimed to promote health awareness and provide essential medical support to the community.
